What is a twibe?

What is a twibe?
A twibe is a group of Twitter users interested in a common topic who communicate with each other. On each twibe’s page, there is a list of twibe members. There is also a tweet stream that lists tweets from twibe members which contain keyword tags, which are set by the twibe founder and are listed just above the tweet stream.

Why would I want to belong to a twibe?
Because it’s a great way to meet people! A lot of people set up a Twitter account, and then abandon it because they don’t know how to find people to talk to. Twibes makes it easy to find other twitter users who share your interests and passions. Simply search Twibes for a keyword or topic, and see what twibes are available to join. You can join up to 10 twibes. Can’t find a twibe for your topic? You can start up to three of your own!

How can I use my twibe professionally?
Participating in a twibe, and especially founding a twibe, establishes you as a leader in your topic. By gathering together others in your field, you give yourself a chance to show what you know, and really shine.

Let’s say you buy and sell vintage clothing and accessories. By joining the Vintage twibe, you’ve not only found 250 other fans of everything vintage – you also have a resource for your business, as well as the chance to let others know about your experience in this topic. You could also join the Pin-Ups twibe to find others who might be into vintage clothing; or, if you would rather get really specific, you could start your own Vintage Handbags twibe!
